This year’s Super Series got under way for Youth, Junior and Senior athletes, with the Performance Assessments weekend taking place over two days of competition in the East Midlands.
On the Saturday, around 400 participants completed the swim leg at the University of Nottingham swimming pool, before heading to a new venue for the second part of the event on Sunday. Beautiful sunny weather greeted the triathletes as they completed the bike and run elements of the weekend at Kendrew Barracks, near Rutland. Each race operated a staggered start based on the swim times from the day before which meant the winner of each race was the first triathlete to cross the finish line. As well as contributing to series points, the weekend’s results allocate athletes their initial rankings for the series.

The youngest age group competing over the weekend saw a close race in the Female category, with 59 athletes battling it out. Hannah Painter came in first, ten seconds ahead of Sophie Richmond with Jasmine Christmas coming in third. Less than 15 seconds covered the top three, making it an incredibly competitive finish.
Aiden Turner finished first in the pool on the Saturday and maintained his lead to win in the Open category. Benjamin Wilmot and Oliver Darcy both made up a significant number of places on the bike and run course on the Sunday to finish second and third, respectively
First out of the pool on Saturday and maintaining her lead on the road on Sunday, Darcy Gladwell led all the way to win the female Youth B category. In a close race for second, Betsy North just pipped Florence Salmon as they both joined Darcy on the podium.
Despite being 14th out of the pool on the Saturday, Lucas Gorrill turned in a strong performance on the bike and the run, to take home the honours in the Youth B category. Alexander Mcguigan and Israel Noble came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Moving onto the junior ranks and in the female category Eloise Foster made up a big deficit of over a minute in the pool over the bike and run to power through the field and take the win ahead of Patience Lamb and Jessica Heeps.
Reuben Wadey led the field home in the open category ahead of Alex Robin who had been first out of the pool the day before. Jasper Adamson took home the final place on the podium.
Isabelle Franco was the leading female senior home, making her way through the field on Sunday after finishing 14th in the swim on the Saturday. She was ahead of Antonia Jubb and Isabella Shirley who took home second and third, respectively.
In the final category of the day, Daniel Van Aardt took home first place in the senior open category, ahead of Malachi Cashmore who came in second and Josh Geary who came in third.

The Super Series heads to Llanelli on 10 May for the next round, where athletes in the youth and junior, senior and paratri categories will all be competing.
