The 2026 Super Series got under way for Youth, Junior and Senior athletes, with the Performance Assessments weekend once again taking place over two days of competition in the East Midlands.
Following the swim sessions in Nottingham on the Saturday, it was a lovely day with clear blue skies at the Kendrew Barracks for the second day of the Performance Assessments. It was a warm Spring day with a slight chill in the air, but pretty much perfect racing conditions for the 400 or so athletes taking part on the day.
The weather played its part in creating a great atmosphere, with loads of athletes and their families staying on throughout the day to support and cheer on their fellow competitors.
Each race operated a staggered start based on the swim times from the Saturday, which meant the winner of each race was the first triathlete to cross the finish line. As well as contributing to series points, the weekend’s results allocate athletes their initial rankings for the series.
It was closely fought in the Female Youth A category where the top ten were separated by less than 90 seconds. Kitty Scott followed up her fine third place at the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Quarteira by taking the win by just over ten seconds from Emilia Waugh who finished in second place. Rounding out the podium was Summer Smith in third place, just four seconds behind Emilia. Kitty and Summer are both in their first year of Super Series racing which makes their podium finishes even more impressive.
Ollie Squire improved on his ninth-place finish last year at the Performance Assessments to take the win in the Open Youth A category, finishing just under ten seconds ahead of Ben Picton who came home second. Macsen Watts from Wales finished in third place, a further ten seconds behind.
Emma Graham-Brown took the win in the Youth B category, continuing her fine early season form after her recent fourth place at the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Quarteira. It was a close-run race for second and third with Molly Smithers just pipping Sophie Mitchell on the line by a second.
It was another close race in the Open Youth B category, with less than ten seconds separating the top three. Tom Mythen who finished in 12th in the Super Series Open Youth A category last year, finished in a total time of 25:55.7 to take the win ahead of Stanley Phillips in second, with Ben Allen coming home in in third.
Moving into the Juniors and overall Super Series Female Youth B bronze medallist from last year Darcy Gladwell took the win in a time of 28:04.5. She was over 20 seconds clear of the closely fought battle for second place, which saw Jessica IK Taylor pip Hannah Kennedy on the line by less than a second.
In the Open Youth B category, Alex Dack took the win, improving on his 15th place finish at the Performance Assessments in 2025. Alex finished ahead of second placed Reuben Wadey, who will be hoping to improve on his fourth place overall in last year’s Super Series. Youth B champion from last year Lucas Gorrill, marked the step up to a new category by rounding out the podium in third place, matching the bronze medal he took at the Europe Triathlon Youth Championships in Kitzbuhel last year.
Leeds athletes Megan Hornung and Helena Coy finished one and two in the Senior Female category with Megan taking the win by just under 15 seconds. Katie Mathison who finished in 24th in the Senior Super Series overall last year, came home in third place, a further 30 seconds behind.
In the Senior Open category, Leeds athlete Harry Maxwell took the win after making the step up from the junior series last year. His overall finish time of 25:05.5 was just under ten seconds clear of Oliver Mills in second place. Joshua Cumberland rounded out the podium in third, a further four seconds behind.
