British Triathlon is excited to launch a new Super Series team competition for Youth and Junior athletes.
The new Super Series team competition will add even more excitement and jeopardy throughout the season, with every competitor playing a part for their team.
Competitors will be grouped into teams representing the English region they come from, while athletes from Scotland and Wales will represent their home countries.
The competing teams are Scotland, Wales, North East, North West, Midlands, South West, and the South East.
The new team competition gets underway this weekend at Lochore Meadows and will continue through the Mallory Park Heats and Finals before building to the Super Series Grand Final itself.
Teams score points based on finishing positions, with the lowest total points overall being the best result. A team’s best results on the day are counted automatically, and if an athlete finishes in a scoring position they contribute to their team’s total. Scoring athletes can come from any race category, with teams potentially scoring from one category or across several.
The Super Series Grand Final is weighted at x1.25 points, so points will be adjusted for the team competition at this race, so lower scores remain the objective. Scores will accumulate across the season, with the lowest overall total scoring team crowned the 2026 winners at the Super Series Grand Final.
To keep things balanced, the number of scoring athletes will depend on the team size.
| Team | Number of scoring athletes |
| Midlands | Ten |
| South West | Ten |
| South East | Ten |
| North East | Nine |
| Wales | Five |
| Scotland | Five |
| North West | Five |
Even if an athlete is not in scoring positions for their own team, they can still influence the outcome by pushing athletes from other teams further down the results, meaning every competitor plays a role in every race.
Athletes do not need to be part of a Regional Academy to take part or score points, everyone is included automatically. Junior athletes based at centres will represent their team of origin. So, for example a Welsh athlete training at Leeds would still represent Wales, and a South West athlete at Loughborough would still represent the South West.
Tables will be updated after each race, with the overall winners announced following the Super Series Grand Final on 29-30 August.
With regional pride on the line and every race counting, the new Super Series team competition is set to bring a whole new buzz to the season. With teams chasing points, pride and the chance to be crowned the first champions, it is all set up for a thrilling summer of competition.
